Mark Jacobs, CEO
President and CEO of Captive Alternatives and the founder of the company in 1999, Mark Jacobs, is widely considered to be an expert in the field of risk management and participatory risk coverages. His expertise in captive insurance companies and captive reinsurance formation, along with his comprehensive knowledge of both domestic and international regulations, have resulted in the formation, management, and operation of over 200 successful captive insurance companies over the last twenty years.
Mark Jacobs is a member of the prestigious Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) and his proven track record attracts invitations to speak at professional events around the world. He is an officer and director of many captive insurance companies and in 2015 became the President and Director of Madison RE I.I., an International Insurer and Puerto Rico’s largest captive reinsurance structure. In early 2016 he became a founding member of the Puerto Rico Captive Insurance Association, and soon will become the President and Director of Madison Insurance Company.

Mark Sims, VP of Business Development
Mark Sims is Vice President of Business Development for Captive Alternatives, LLC. He has more than 25 years of experience in financial and insurance consulting and focuses primarily upon the use of domestic and international Captive Insurance Companies for insuring business risks and / or medical malpractice risks of hospitals, surgical centers or medical groups throughout the United States. Mark is a recognized and popular professional speaker on Captive Insurance Companies. He holds an honorary membership in the prestigious Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA). He has extensive working experience with essential captive insurance service providers such as local management companies, bankers, actuaries, auditors, CPA’s, attorneys and regulators.
David Kirkup, COO/ CFO
In his capacity as Chief Operating Officer and CFO, David Kirkup manages all operations and oversees the financial performance for Captive Alternatives Group. With more than 20 years in the insurance industry and over 30 years of professional business experience, Kirkup is using his expertise to help make Captive Alternatives the premier risk management consulting and captive management enterprise.
Prior to joining the company, Kirkup was a Partner with national CFO outsourcing firm B2B CFO. He has also served as Captive Controller at Johnson & Higgins Bermuda (now Marsh), and managed international captives for nine of the top pharmaceutical companies, and was the CFO of the $1 billion Major Accounts Division of Zurich Insurance.
Kirkup holds a degree in Management Science and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants certification, as well as the Associate in Risk Management. In his spare time, Kirkup enjoys hiking, yoga and wind surfing, and spends time with his wife Kim, three children and grandson.
