Mark Jacobs, Chairman and CEO
Chairman and CEO of Captive Alternatives and the founder of the company in 2001, Mark Jacobs is widely considered to be an expert in the field of risk management and participatory risk coverages. His expertise in private insurance and captive reinsurance formation, along with his comprehensive knowledge of both domestic and international regulations, have resulted in the formation, management, and operation of over 200 successful private insurance companies over the last twenty years.
Mark Jacobs is a longstanding member of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA), the Risk Management Society (RIMS), and Self-Insurance Institute of America (SIIA). Jacobs is an active advisor on SIIA’s Captive Insurance Committee and his proven track record attracts invitations to speak at professional events around the world. He is a director of many private insurance companies and in 2015 became the President and Director of Madison RE I.I., an International Insurer and Puerto Rico’s largest captive reinsurance structure. In early 2016 he became a founding member of the Puerto Rico Captive Insurance Association (PRIIA) and board member, and is the President and Director of Madison International Insurance Company.

Mark Sims, President of Global Business Development
Mark Sims is President of Global Business Development for Captive Alternatives, LLC. He has more than 25 years of experience in risk management and insurance consulting, and focuses on the use of Private Insurance for insuring the catastrophic business risks and employee benefits programs of medical groups, business owners in many sectors, and other high net worth groups throughout the United States. Mark is a charismatic and popular professional speaker on the use of Private Insurance for risk management, asset protection, wealthy preservation and exit strategies. He is a member of the Captive Insurance Companies Association and the Self Insurance Institute of America. Mark has extensive working experience with tax attorneys, estate planning firms and other trusted advisors to high net worth business owners and families, and frequently provides customized webinars to advisor groups who want to learn about Private Insurance and the Puerto Rico solution.
David Kirkup, COO/ CFO
In his capacity as Chief Operating Officer and CFO, David Kirkup manages all operations and oversees the financial performance for Captive Alternatives Group. With more than 20 years in the insurance industry and over 30 years of professional business experience, Kirkup is using his expertise to help make Captive Alternatives the premier risk management consulting and captive management enterprise.
Prior to joining the company, Kirkup was a Partner with national CFO outsourcing firm B2B CFO. He has also served as Captive Controller at Johnson & Higgins Bermuda (now Marsh), and managed international captives for nine of the top pharmaceutical companies, and was the CFO of the $1 billion Major Accounts Division of Zurich Insurance.
Kirkup holds a degree in Management Science and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants certification, as well as the Associate in Risk Management. In his spare time, Kirkup enjoys hiking, yoga and wind surfing, and spends time with his wife Kim, three children and grandson.
Robert A. Zack, Chief Legal Officer
Robert A. Zack is Chief Legal Officer for Captive Alternatives and has served in that position since 2007. Prior to 2007, he served as in house counsel for hospitals in both Michigan and Florida, as Associate General Counsel for Inphynet Medical Management, Inc in Ft. Lauderdale and as General Counsel for Prison Health Services, Inc of Brentwood, Tennessee. He has also practiced law in large law firm settings, government entities, and in his former solo practice. Mr. Zack has over 35 years experience in handling insurance matters, particularly while serving as President of a national Risk Retention Group.
Mr. Zack is admitted to practice law in Michigan and Florida and is a practicing Solicitor of England and Wales. Mr. Zack is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an expert in Health Law.
Mark Barwick, Underwriter
Mark Barwick is responsible for underwriting review of new business submissions, identifying appropriate risks and assisting the actuary with pricing questions. Mark began his career as a P&C claims adjuster in 1989 with a large commercial carrier and progressed through the ranks as a Reinspector/Trainer, Supervisor and Catastrophe Team Manager. He made the jump from P&C claims to a claims adjuster with a large medical malpractice carrier in Atlanta, GA in 2002 and moved from adjuster to the position of Underwriting Manager in 2005. In 2008, he began working with a plaintiff’s attorney firm representing injured parties.
In 2009, he began working with a risk retention group insuring high risk physicians in the state of New York and in 2014, he moved to another risk retention group as the Director of Underwriting with his continued focus on medical malpractice for high risk physicians across the U.S.
Chelvis Lamar Bell, Legal Support
Chelvis Bell supports in-house counsel with legal matters including claims matters, policy language and international legal compliance. Chelvis obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College and a Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center. He has over 5 years of legal support experience.
Lisa Clay, Executive Assistant
Lisa Clay provides administrative and operations support to our executive team. She has over 15 years’ experience in insurance claims, with roles as a multi-line adjuster, a specialist in workers’ compensation claims, and as a supervisor of a Special Investigation Unit of workers’ compensation claims. She has also worked as an Office Manager and Executive Assistant for CEOs in various industries. Lisa spent 6 years in the Army and has an Associate’s Degree from Gwinnett Technical College in Business Office Operations.
Emilie Gastley, Director of Marketing
Emilie Gastley manages marketing and business development activities for Captive Alternatives. In this role, she will be working to reach Family Office and HNW trusted advisors, tax attorneys and business owners to help further develop CapAlt’s business reach.
Prior to joining CapAlt, Emilie lead operations and business development for a successful medical group with locations throughout north Georgia.
Emilie graduated from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta with a degree in Economics and went on to earn her Master in Business Administration and Master in Health Administration degrees from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Emilie recently completed her Associate in Captive Insurance designation.
Jocelyn Hanson, Executive Assistant to Mark Sims and Client Relations Representative
Jocelyn Hanson is the Executive Assistant to Mark Sims, VP of Business Development. Additionally, in her role as Client Relations Representative, Jocelyn is the point of contact for all new Protected Captive clients. She manages all new accounts, answers questions, handles quarterly financial statements, yearly renewal of policies, and handles claims. Jocelyn has six years of experience in sales, customer relations, and management in the multifamily housing industry. She is a certified apartment manager. Jocelyn is a graduate of Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree.
Lilliana Keane, Client Relations Representative
In her role as Client Relations Representative, Lilliana Keane coordinates new business setup, reconciliation of bank statements, actuarial, auditing and tax preparation activities as well as manages accounts payable for the company’s more than 200 Protected Captives.
Prior to Joining Captive Alternatives, Lilliana worked in the Sports and Entertainment Insurance sector as Office Manager and Special Assistant to the President and Managing Partners. Lilliana possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology. She also earned a GNVQ Business and Finance certificate while living in the United Kingdom. She is currently pursuing her Associate in Captive Insurance designation.
Ann Marie Lubatti, Director of Operations
Ann Marie Lubatti joined the Captive Alternatives team in 2012. As Director of Operations, Ann Marie oversees the onboarding of new clients and the annual renewal of existing clients. Initially handling client relations, then to managing the cash and treasury functions, and to overseeing operations, Ann Marie has a full understanding of the Protected Captive® reinsurance structure and the processes and procedures to ensure smooth and efficient service for our captive owners. She continues to manage treasury functions that pertain to captive set up, reinsurance premium ceding, and banking.
Ann Marie graduated from Georgia College & State University with a degree in Business Management. She recently completed her Associate in Captive Insurance designation.
Cecelia Strong, Business Development Coordinator
Cecelia Strong is Business Development Coordinator for Captive Alternatives. In this role, she supports both the sales and marketing teams and works closely with advisors and prospective clients to support the overall growth and development of our company. Prior to joining CapAlt, Cecelia worked in the marketing and public relations sector, most recently as the Communications Director of a boutique agency. She started her career in finance, working in business development and investor relations for hedge funds and back office administrators in New York.
Cecelia is a graduate of Agnes Scott College. She is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor from the Georgia State University School of Law and an Associate in Captive Insurance designation from ICCIE.
